The Bird Cage Theatre. Built in 1881 and used as a theater, gambling house and house of pleasure this historic landmark once hosted such names as Eddie Foy, Lotta Crabtree, Lily Langtree and Lola Montez on its stage. In 1882, the New York Times referred to the Bird Cage Theatre as, "...the roughest, bawdiest and most wicked night spot between Basin Street and the Barbary Coast." Today, it retains all of its original fixtures and furnishings, including the dust.
